Menopause Discover How To Control The Symptoms.

While menopause is a normal change in life that all women experience, the symptoms can be extremely bothersome. Some women are bombarded with these uncomfortable symptoms, and search out ways to help control them. Here we will discuss menopause and how to help control its symptoms.

Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms of menopause. Hot flashes are also known as night sweats, but do not always occur at night. It is when your body becomes suddenly hot, so hot, that it radiates into the face and neck area. Very often the person suffering with the hot flash will sweat so profusely that the sweat will saturate her clothing. A hot flash is usually always followed by a chill, or cooling down period. To help control hot flashes effectively, a woman can add soy products or more fiber to her diet.

Vaginal dryness is another uncomfortable symptom of menopause. Research studies have shown that adding vitamin E supplements to their daily routines, many women have lessened, and even eliminated vaginal dryness all together. Vitamin E suppositories are available for menopausal women – these are inserted into the vagina. Vitamin E is also proven effective in aiding in the reduction, or even elimination, of hot flashes, as well.

There are numerous natural remedies to help in controlling many of the symptoms of menopause. Due to lack of hormones being produced in their bodies, many women will experience bouts of moodiness, and sometimes even depression. St. John’s Wart, which can be purchased at many health food stores, can often help with this. By adding a St. John’s Wart supplement to their daily routine, many women have reported being less irritable, less depressed, and even energized. Other supplements that can help with moodiness include kava kava and valerian.

Black cohosh is a very popular herb women use to help cut down on the symptoms of menopause. Black cohosh can help with hot flashes, cramps, and heavy menstrual bleeding. Research studies have also shown that black cohosh may even help prevent osteoporosis. Most research studies recommend you take black cohosh extract, and it may take two to four weeks before noticed results occur.

Like black cohosh, chasterberry (or vitex agnus castus) can help alleviate symptoms of menopause including hot flashes and vaginal dryness. In addition to these symptoms of menopause, chasterberry may also help with breast tenderness. Women have reported it taking up to four weeks to achieve noticeable results.

While the symptoms of menopause can be uncomfortable, bothersome, and irritating, there is hope. In addition to traditional hormone replacement therapy, many options are available to help lessen, or even eliminate the symptoms of menopause.

International Baby Adoption

If you are considering an international baby adoption, then you will need to also find a reputable agency to help guide you through the paperwork and process. In addition, when some families are hoping for a baby adoption, they employ the help of an attorney.

International adoptions are often fast and can be completed in as little 10 to 14 months from the time of application. The majority of children who are eligible for adoption are newborns, who were usually separated from their birth mother within a few days after birth. At that time, they are placed in foster care until the adoption process is complete. In addition to newborn infants, there are also sometimes older children who are seeking adoption.

Most baby adoption agencies, who help to handle international adoptions, will consider an application from either a married couple or a single woman, who is an adult and has completed a successful home study. In addition, most adoptions are given to individuals and/or families who are both emotionally and financially stable. The number of current children that an individual has, if any, is not usually a deciding factor when it comes to international baby adoption.

As a general rule, once the adoption process is finalized, the parent(s) is required to travel to their new child’s country in order to pick them up. This generally takes 2 to 3 days before the paperwork is finalized and the child is allowed to exit the country. The fee for baby adoption will vary from one country to the next and will largely depend on each’s policy.

Due to strict immigration laws and all of the paperwork involved, individuals considering an international baby adoption should consult a local attorney. Some families have also consulted with international attornies with great success. This will help to ensure that all paperwork and other required procedures are done properly in order to avoid delays with the baby adoption and the return home. The attorney will often be required to accompany the adopting family to pick up the child and to finalize the details of the adoption. This will help protect the rights of the new parent(s) and the child as well.

All children who are adopted abroad, and have been in the custody of the adoptive family for a period of less than two years, are required to possess U.S. immigrant orphan petitions and orphan visas before entering the United States. This process typically requires that the adoptive parent(s) be found suitable for adoption, an investigation into the status of the child be completed and finalization of the visa application.

More Common Ideas About The Female Orgasm

As you know, there are hundreds of myths about the female orgasm. But, the question is: are they all true? Of course not!

Here are some of the most common myths:

Myth 1: Women take longer to reach orgasm than men.

This is a common myth which has not been supported by research. The reason people believe this is that they don’t understand the female arousal pattern. Women’s arousal patterns are much different than men’s and, as a result, they are physically prepared for intercourse later than men are.

The time from optimal arousal to orgasm is pretty much identical for both men and women. The difference is in how long it takes to reach that level of arousal. Because men often don’t know how to help their partners get to that point, it does seem to take longer. Once that’s changed, however, men find their partners reach orgasm more quickly and even have multiple orgasms in quick succession.

Myth 2: Women should only reach orgasm through vaginal intercourse.

This is definitely not true but it’s a myth that has caused us to take women’s sexual needs for granted for a long time. This myth actually started with Sigmund Freud, the developer of psychoanalysis, who had recognized that women could easily reach orgasm through clitoral stimulation. Freud dismissed this type of stimulation as juvenile and believed it was important for women to become more sexually mature by focusing only on vaginal stimulation to reach orgasms.

The problem is that the vagina was not designed for orgasms. It does not have the concentrated nerve endings that one finds in the clitoris or in the head of a penis, for example.

As a result of Freud’s determination, women who could not reach orgasm through vaginal intercourse were considered to have some type of psychological impairment. All sorts of methods were devised in an attempt to “liberate” women from their reliance on the clitoris for sexual pleasure.

Only in recent decades has society begun talking openly about the women’s right to enjoy sex and to reach orgasm in whatever manner worked for her.

Myth 3: Only women fake orgasms.

Even though this article is about female orgasms, I think it’s important for both men and women to realize that orgasms are not going to happen during every sexual encounter. About one-fifth of men admitted that they have faked an orgasm with a partner. Their reasons for faking are the same as women’s: they don’t want their partners to be disappointed.

Orgasms don’t always come easily in a partnership. Sure, when we masturbate we can probably get off every time because we know our bodies and we know what works. Our sexual partners have to learn these things over time and, most importantly, with our help.

Again, faking orgasms is not the answer for either sex. It just complicates the issue and prevents both partners from having a truly fulfilling sexual encounter.

So, bottom line: don’t believe all myths you hear or read! You can please women with the best orgasms if you understand how the female body works!

New Technology For Immediately Refreshing Your Appearance

Ladies all know that no matter how much makeup we wear of how carefully and strategically we apply it before we leave the house, often times it’s almost gone by the time we get to the office. And, we might as well forget about it by lunch or quitting time.

Traditionally our midday and end-of-day touch-ups were part of our daily routine. But, now, according to experts, instead of women sneaking off into the washroom for a quick (facial) pick-me-up, they are sneaking instead into the spa or doctor’s office.

It’s all part of the latest trend of non-invasive mini-facelifts, wrinkle elimination and waistline reduction procedures commonly referred to a “lunchtime plastic surgeries”.
And, experts assert that lots of patients want immediate and measurable results and without going under the knife.

Among the most common procedures (gaining in popularity) are suture lifts. Suture lifts or Lifestyle Lifts are noted as being ideal for those on a budget and are described as one-hour, in-office microsurgeries that involve strategically situated surgical threads administered under local anesthetic. Lifestyle Lifts are done in order to firm the lower face and neck area by placing tiny, permanent sutures under the skin to lift and tighten sagging muscles.

Contour Threads is another procedure geared toward a droopy brow, cheek or jowl, and involves passing a needle and barbed thread beneath loose skin and tugging it back into place, offering natural and instantaneous results.

The Lifestyle lift is said to last between 5 and 20 years and Contour Thread for between three and five years. And, outside of some (minor) swelling and bruising, you can expect to recover (from either procedure) within a few days (especially if you use an ice pack.

The only “drawbacks”, according to experts is that Lifestyle Lifts offer the greatest benefit and results to women over 40; and Contour Threads can be performed on younger women but won’t last as long as the Lifestyle lift or a traditional facelift.

New Drug May Offer Ways To Tame Menopause

Since it was discovered that the risks of hormone therapy outweighed the benefits, scientists have been searching for a safe, natural way to alleviate the symptoms of menopause.

Participants are currently being recruited for a follow-up clinical trial of a treatment known as MF101 developed by Bionovo, Inc. In its initial clinical trial, MF101 provided women in the study with preliminary evidence of relief from such symptoms as hot flashes and night sweats, without the risks associated with hormone therapy.

The treatment being tested clinically targets only one of the two known estrogen receptors-the estrogen receptor beta. Laboratory data has shown that MF101 does not cause the proliferation of breast or uterine cancer cells the way hormone therapy can, making the drug a safer alternative to currently available hormone therapies.

In 2002, the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) Estrogen Plus Progestin Trial, with over 16,000 women participants, was stopped early when it was found that the standard dose of combination hormone therapy increased the risk of breast cancer, stroke, heart attacks, blood clots and dementia.

“Given the void that exists for a safe and effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, our aim is to discover and develop novel drugs such as MF101 that can abate many of the symptoms that have historically been treated with hormones,” said Dr. Mary Tagliaferri. Tagliaferri is co-author of “The New Menopause Book: The Experts Help You Make Informed Decisions on HRT, Natural Hormone Therapy, Herbal Therapies, Traditional Chinese Medicine And More” (Avery, 2006) and Chief Medical Officer of Bionovo, which is developing the drug.

The clinical trials will take place under the directorship of renowned researcher Dr. Deborah Grady at four leading academic medical centers.

Bionovo expects this Phase 2 trial to be completed by the second quarter of 2007.

“If this new drug proves to be effective, we will be providing health care practitioners with a treatment they can comfortably recommend to women experiencing menopause,” said Dr. Tagliaferri.

Mom’s Head To Toe List – Five Things To Do Before Summer

Summer is here! Are you prepared to be a sun-loving beauty? This checklist for Summer Preparation will give you a good start for swimsuit season.

Exercise – Ladies, there’s nowhere to hide it anymore. The big, bad cellulite fairy visited during the winter again. Or does cellulite reproduce when it’s cold? Either way, get out your walking shoes and hit the streets. Or grab an exercise video and shake it until it melts off.

Pluck or wax those eyebrows. – The bright sunlight will show every little straggler. There’s nothing worse than looking like Bert in a bikini!

Swimsuit Shopping – Although most women would rather have a root canal than to go swimsuit shopping, it is a necessary evil. If your options are to go swimsuit shopping or to run around the pool in a worn, baggy, see-through swimsuit – please drag yourself to the store! I’ll be the one hiding in the stall next to you, laughing as I try on yet another swimsuit over my undergarments and try to figure out exactly what I’m looking at.

Body Hair – Let’s face it. Winter is not the time we are most diligent about keeping up with shaving. If you’re dreading another year of shaving, there are many more options these days to choose from — from home waxing kits to laser hair removal.

Feet – Eew! Those scratchy, rough, lizardy-feet need to go away now. Buff them or grab a power sander, but get them looking like skin again before sandal season. Once you’ve got people-feet instead of hobbit-feet, then dust off a bottle of toenail polish, grab a toe-ring, and make them pretty.

Now you’re ready for swimsuit season. Grab a little drink umbrella, drop it into your diet Coke and enjoy your summer, as the sun goddess that you are!

Menopause and Gastrointestinal Distress

Numerous women report that menopause comes along with gastrointestinal distress causing uncomfortable symptoms such as indigestion, flatulence and sudden bloating. Not only are these annoying and embarrassing, they can also be quite painful.

During menopause, gastrointestinal bloating is caused when air fills the abdomen, creating a full feeling. Even though your stomach remains the same size, your pants probably feel tighter and your waistline just seems to keep expanding. Excess intestinal gas is produced by bacteria in the intestines. Sugar located foods often contribute to the growth of this bacterium.

Poor digestion, a lack of lactose – an enzyme that breaks down food and liquids, can cause gastrointestinal distress as well. Gas distress can also be rampant during menopause due to lack of estrogen. Medical studies have suggested that a menopausal woman’s diet can be to blame – particularly too many high sugar foods including fruit, and certain vegetables such as cauliflower, onion and broccoli that create even more bacteria in already inflamed intestines.

Of course your hormones might also be the trigger for bloating. For example, progesterone in the right doses has a calming effect, but in too high doses can cause bloating and breast tenderness. A form of estrogen called Estradiol, on the other hand, is sometimes prescribed as a relief for bloating.

People who eat too much protein at once can cause bloating because the stomach can’t digest it all. Enzymes that help digestion such as Beano aid in the consumption of products such as soy that can have numerous positive effects for menopausal women.

Herbs can be used to restore balance in menopause. You need to be clear on what stage of menopause you are in. Different hormone levels vary significantly from peri-menopause to menopause and post-menopause, and of course your doctor needs to help you with these decisions.

For bloating as well as headaches and breast tenderness, an herbal tea that provides minerals in a dissolved form can help. Minerals help your body handle waste loads as well as provide a good source of calcium. You can use a combination of raspberry, dandelion, lemon balm, nettles, and green oat straw tea. Drink one cup of tea per day. Don quai can increase the effectiveness of estrogen released from fat tissue and help soothe menopausal discomfort as well.

Organic Skin Care Products

More women are in the market for organic skincare products. The trend toward organic is growing; Walmart has recently publicized its intention to increase its offering of organic food by 50%, and more people are extending their interest in organic products to organic skincare products in addition to food. After all, what you put on your body is just as essential as what you put into your body, since it is absorbed into the skin, and organic skincare products work effectively without all of the chemicals, which can cause health problems. Like all organic products, organic skincare products come from all natural products and contain no harmful chemicals.

Organic skin care products are held to the same standards as organic food products, and the US. Department of Agriculture has recently released guidelines concerning the labeling of organic products. If something is labeled 100% organic, it must contain all organic products. However, if a product is labeled as simply “organic” it can contain up to 5% of non-organic material. This small percentage is often not a huge concern for most consumers, but for very strict adherents to organic products, 5% can make a difference in whether they purchase the product or not. If the label says that the products is “made with organic ingredients” it must have at least 70% organic material in it. Depending on how adamant you are about purchasing organic skin products, you will want to inspect the label before buying. If you are shopping on the web, you can find out whether or not something is 100% organic by consulting the site or asking the webmaster.

All organic products, including organic skincare products are made from materials that are grown on soil that has been certified as pesticide-free for at least 3 years. Organic skincare products are made without:

· Synthetic pesticides
· Insecticides
· Herbicides
· fungicides
· hormones
· chemical fertilizers

There has been some talk that the FDA is warning cosmetic companies to eliminate dangerous chemicals in their products, or their goods will carry labels, similar to the warning labels on cigarettes. Many dyes and other chemicals found in non-organic cosmetics and skincare products are hazardous and carcinogenic, and as one proponent of organic skincare products comments, “If you knew what was in your skin cream or foundation, you would never want to have it anywhere near your face!” A traditional skincare treatment program places about 100 chemicals on a woman’s face, many of them hazardous. Organic skincare products can function the same way, but without the chemicals.

You can find organic skincare products which:

· exfoliate
· cleanse
· condition
· nourish the skin
· hydrate the skin
· moisturize
· purify the skin

Many organic skincare products are made from cold-pressed, unrefined oils, herb and flower extracts and from organic fruits, nuts and seeds. Peach pits can make an excellent exfoliating scrub to scour dead skin cells and renew one’s complexion. Citrus fruits refresh and revive the skin, and mud masks purify the pores. A popular choice is a cleanser with orange peel oil, calendula and marshmallow. You can also find an exfoliant with bergmont and orange, or a conditioner made of hazel, burdock, plantain and vitamins. A rosewater spray hydrates skin that becomes dry from indoor heating in the winter and the sun in the summer.

Many women who use organic skincare products say that their skin feels even more fresh and pure after using organic products, and that they do not want to switch to their old non-organic brands. Another advantage to using organic skincare products is that, since they are made from plant oil, herbs, flowers and fruit, they often combine skincare with a pleasing fragrance. This means that you can combine skincare with aromatherapy. The orange and bergamont skin cleanser not only refreshes your skin but can lift your mood as well!

Midlife Women ~ What They Really Want

Over 40 million women are entering the second half of their lives and what they really want is not what many people think. It’s not about the gray hair, a few wrinkles or even hitting the big 5-0.

The recent story in Time Magazine (5/9/05) has hopefully opened eyes to what midlife and older women really want. So often, society looks at midlife as just being that – midlife, menopause, empty nest, gray hair and wrinkles. Yet, to women it’s so much more.

We have been asking women about their views and stories regarding positive and successful aging experiences. Not only have they shared their wonderfully delightful stories, they have also revealed their hopes, expectations and goals for the second half of their lives.

These stories tell of women looking forward to this time of their life as a time of renewal, of exploring new areas of interest and of the “freedom to be whole and who I really want to be”. Women speak of lessons learned, wisdom granted, and the ability to look ahead to accepting new challenges. Many of these women actually look forward to growing older and to the gifts that come with age.

What about you? What do you really want? This is not as easy of a question as it appears. Ask your self some questions and record your answers in your journal. Visit it often and see what presents itself to you.

Here are some questions to consider.

•Name 3-5 things you have accomplished in your life. These are things you are most proud of. What are they?
•Name your strengths. What are at least 5 positive qualities that you have? Any special talents or particular areas you are strong in?
•What are the things that get you up every morning? What are you passions? What makes your toes tingle and your soul quicken?
•What is important in your life? If you were at the end of your life, what would you need to have accomplished so that you have no regrets about anything.
•With the above questions answered, action do you need to take so that the second half of your life is truly extraordinary?

Answering these questions will help you find your passions, priorities and your life’s purpose. It’s time to start living it.

Ovarian cysts – An issue of concern

Ovary is the organ that is most prone to a number and variety of cysts in the body of a woman. The ovarian function of producing hormones and releasing eggs is directly related to the formation of cysts. Usually they occur in the reproductive age of a woman but they can occur in girls or women of any age.

An ovarian cyst is a sac or pouch that develops in or on the ovary more often during ovulation. These contents are in the form of liquid but they could be solid or a mixture of liquid and solid materials. Even though ovarian cysts are small about the size of a pea or a kidney bean, they grow to the size of softball or even larger. Large ovarian cysts are quite remarkable because the ovary itself is about the size of a walnut. Ovarian cysts are very common and most of these results in changes in the normal function of ovary and not from new growths.

Indications of an ovarian cyst
There are many kinds of ovarian cysts and since their size and number also varies they cause a variety of symptoms. Many cysts even do not cause any symptoms and can be discovered during a regular gynecological check up. However, abdominal pain is the first indicator of an ovarian cyst and if the cyst is large you may face pain or feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen. These cysts can also bring lower abdominal pain during intercourse.

Other possibility of such pain might be the stem that forms on some cysts and becomes twisted that also stops the normal flow of blood and causes intense burns of pain. If a cyst ruptures, it can cause severe lower abdominal pain along with weakness, nausea or vomiting.

Cyst can also cause other symptoms and can press on the rectum leading to constipation or on the bladder creating an urge to urinate. You should not ignore any of these symptoms as they could also be the signs of a gastrointestinal disturbance or any bladder infection.

Results such as irregular periods and infertility
Ovarian cysts can cause irregular periods in a condition called polycystic ovaries whereby the hormonal system regulating the ovaries is disturbed and may cause to form a large number of cysts. Some women also face trouble in pregnancy.
